Knowing an exercise in your head doesn’t always mean your body can do it.
In this session, we focused on improving proprioception—the body’s ability to sense where it is and how it is moving.
Using props and 3D bone models, we helped the patient connect what she understood with what she could actually feel in her body.
When the brain and body communicate more clearly, movement can change dramatically.
エクササイズを頭で理解していても、身体でその動きを実践できるとは限りません。
今回のセッションでは、身体の位置や動きを感じ取る【固有感覚（proprioception）】に注目しました。
プロップスや立体的な骨の 模型を使い、「知識として分かっていること」と「身体で感じること」をつなげていきます。
脳と身体のつながりが変わることで、動きも大きく変化していきます。

In Japan, we have a beautiful word, "Ume-shigoto" (literally "plum work").
Ripe Japanese plums are extremely delicate, so every step—from harvesting to curing—is done with immense care, moving at the natural rhythm of the season's weather. My late grandmother used to do this every year as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Umeboshi (pickled plums) are actually my absolute favorite food, but finding truly delicious, additive-free ones here in the US is quite a challenge.
Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to harvest "Apriplums"—a natural cross between an apricot and a plum—at a friend's community garden where I volunteer.
I cured the ones I brought home with 20% natural sea salt for Umeboshi, and used the rest to brew homemade plum liqueur with brown sugar and vodka. It’s a bit late in the season, but now I’m waiting for three clear, sunny days to sun-dry them before placing them back into the plum vinegar.
Turning something I used to just buy at the store into something I craft with my own hands—especially while living in the US—has been such a fresh, meaningful, and grounding experience.

Whether it’s a simple toast and eggs on weekdays or a nice salmon brunch on weekends, taking 30 minutes to make a warm, nourishing meal and savor every bite has made a world of difference. My days now begin with calm focus rather than stress.
It’s the small ways we consistently care for ourselves that end up making the biggest impact on our well-being.

A bit late on this, but I joined the annual Solstice Yoga in Times Square again this year! 🧘♀️✨
It’s silently become a yearly tradition for me, though I’ll admit—when I first went, I thought, “Yoga in the middle of all that chaos? How is anyone supposed to meditate?!” 😂
Turns out, I was completely wrong. In a place usually overflowing with tourists and actively avoided by New Yorkers, tuning into your breath and body with the city’s roar in the background is a surprisingly profound experience.
And Savasana? Lying on your back right in the center of Times Square, looking up at the sky—it feels like the ultimate NYC luxury. The sky never disappoints.
This year came with a unique plot twist: World Cup fever! The Norwegian fan club gathered in Times Square right during our session. Doing yoga while being subtly cheered on by their famous “rowing boat” chant is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime memory. ⚽️🇳🇴
Summer in NYC means so many amazing outdoor events, from Bryant Park yoga to neighborhood festivals. Hope you all get a chance to enjoy the summer vibe in the city!

実は毎年の恒例行事になっているのですが、初めて参加した頃は「あんな大都会のど真ん中でヨガなんて、集中も瞑想もあったもんじゃない！」と思っていました（笑）
でも実際に参加してみると印象は一変。普段は観光客で溢れ、ニューヨーカーならちょっと避けて通るような喧騒のど真ん中で、街の音をバックグラウンドに自分の体と呼吸だけに集中する1時間。なんとも不思議で特別な感覚になります。
たっぷり動いた後のシャバーサナで、Times Squareの真ん中で空を見上げて寝転がる時間は本当に贅沢で、毎年素晴らしい空が広がっています。
そして今年はなんと、W杯でノルウェーの応援団がTimes Squareに大集結しているタイミングとバッチリ重なるというハプニングが！あの大歓声と、有名になった「ボートを漕ぐ応援スタイル」に見守られながら（？）ヨガをするという、人生最初で最後かもしれない超レアな体験になりました（笑）
夏の間はブライアントパークをはじめ、NYCのあちこちで魅力的な屋外イベントが目白押しです。皆さんもニューヨークならではの夏をぜひ楽しんでみてくださいね！

This weekend, I had the chance to visit the National Museum of Asian Art and spend time exploring some beautiful works from Japan.
We were fortunate to be guided by the museum’s wonderful docent, Frank Feltens, who shared insights on Japanese folding screens and the stunning waterfall paintings of Hiroshi Senju. He also generously gave us a copy of his book on Hokusai’s paintings.
I’ve placed the book in our reception area, so if you’re waiting for an appointment and would like to browse through it, please feel free. It’s a lovely opportunity to spend a few minutes with some remarkable artwork and art history.

In the last year, and especially in the last few weeks, I have been reminded over and over again of the importance of community and offering and asking for help both in the small and big challenges we face in our lives.
Over the past few weeks I’ve seen people show up for each other in such simple but meaningful ways — helping strangers move heavy items, offering rides when someone was overwhelmed and unable to drive , dropping off food for someone grieving, sending a text just to check in with a friend having a hard time or sitting with someone in a hard moment instead of trying to fix it.
If we ask for an offer help, we will be very quickly surprised and reminded of how much support we really have around us, even if in that moment we feel very alone or isolated.
Support doesn’t always have to be grand or perfect. Sometimes the smallest acts of care are the things that help people keep going. There is strength in offering help, but even more so in being able to ask for it. Humans were not made to live in the confines of self sufficient isolation, but are intrinsically wired for community.

たとえその時、どんなに孤独で、孤立しているように感じていたとしても。
サポートとは、必ずしも壮大で完璧なものである必要はありません。
時には、ほんの小さな思いやりこそが、人が歩みを止めないための糧になるのです。
誰かを助けることにも強さは必要ですが、それ以上に、自ら「助けて」と言えることにこそ、本当の強さがあります。
人間は、自給自足の孤立した檻の中で生きるようには作られていません。私たちは、本質的にコミュニティを求め、つながり合うようにできているのです。

Back in Japan, I never really thought about what it meant to be “Japanese.” It was just who I was. But since moving to the U.S., I’ve become deeply aware of my identity as Japanese and, more broadly, as part of the “Asian” community.
Living abroad isn’t always easy. Cultural gaps and misunderstandings based on appearance or background can sometimes lead to moments of sadness. I’m sure many of you have felt this way, too.
In those moments, what makes me truly proud to be Japanese is the ritual of enjoying warm green tea with wagashi (Japanese sweets). While “MATCHA” is incredibly popular now, brewing a truly delicious cup of green tea at home is a delicate art.
Waiting for the water to cool to the perfect 140°F, watching the tea leaves gently unfurl in the pot, and remembering the lessons passed down from my mother and grandmother... This mindful process, and the deep appreciation for the flavor it creates, is a beautiful part of my heritage that I cherish every day.

I’ve been taking my lunch breaks at Bryant Park for some time now, but I’m especially drawn to the park this month!
Myself, along with others who’ve been wooed by the silly antics of the American Woodcock, aka the Timberdoodle, have flocked to Bryant Park in the hopes of catching a glimpse of this dancing bird on their migration pit stop. And incredibly, in the middle of the city, there they were.
This tiny, oddly spherical, and very well camouflaged bird travels hundreds of miles, pausing briefly in places like NYC to rest and refuel before continuing on. It feels surreal that while we’re rushing through our day, they’re quietly passing through the same spaces with their own agenda.
Bryant Park is an important reminder that small pockets of greenery make immense positive impacts by creating safe spaces for the wonderful co-inhabitants of our planet - even here in the busiest parts of the city.
